Yes. Sedation dentistry is safe.

If you have any concerns when it comes to sedation dentistry, please address those concerns with your dentist and choose an option that you are comfortable with.

Your dentists are trained and capable. We are confident that the risks you face are few and unlikely.

There are two instances in which we would recommend sedation. For everyone else, you’ll be fine with our other methods of anesthetizing the part of your mouth our dentists will work on. The two instances we’d recommend sedation are for patients with a high level of anxiety, but often after a visit or two the anxiety is lessened and the sedation is unnecessary after that. Second, using sedation in complex cases involving a number of procedures lets the dentists get a lot more work done in one visit instead of having you come back for multiple visits.

Children may receive nitrous oxide – laughing gas – as determined by the dentist. Not all children will be eligible for it based upon a number of criteria.

The same is true for our older patients. While there are more options for sedation available, we decide which to administer after a health evaluation.

It varies from person to person, but often times the patient will not remember the trip to and from the office. How nice is that?

Whether your insurance will cover all or part of the costs of sedation depends upon several criteria including whether the insurance is covering any or all of the procedure you’re having done.

Short answer, yes. Some folks cannot tolerate nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and others do not want to be awake during their procedures.
